The Small Stick

Designed by Tom Hunt as a small field aerobatic model, the Small Stick flies like a much larger model. The kit is fully laser cut from high grade balsa and features two full-size computer drawn rolled plans, pre-formed landing gear, and a hardware package.

While most small models eliminate the rudder, The Small Stick incorporates rudder control to allow the model to perform the full spectrum of aerobatic maneuvers. The Small Stick tracks through the air as though it were on rails with handling qualities usually found only in much larger models. Vertical flight performance is possible with the recommended power. Slow flight is a thing of beauty with the Small Stick. Fly-bys at walking speed and nose high landings are easy, and the model exhibits no tendency to drop a wing tip at very slow speeds.

This model, conceived by noted designer Steve Shumate, is a parkflyer adaptation of Laddie Mikulasko's beautiful North Star seaplane. Constructed of laser cut 6 mm Depron foam, the 29" wingspan Polaris features excellent handling qualities, both in the air and on the water.

The versatile Polaris takes off and lands effortlessly on water, grass, or even snow, and it possesses a wide speed range—with the recommended power setup the top speed approaches 70 mph. The model slows down well and can plop down into the water at high alpha under full control at less than 10 mph. The low wing loading ensures very docile flying qualities.
