Grumman HU-16 Albatross – By Park Scale Models

The Grumman HU-16 Albatross was introduced in 1949 as an open ocean search and rescue flying boat. Designed to rescue downed pilots and flight crews, the Albatross could takeoff normally in 4-foot seas and 8-10-foot seas with JATO boosters. The Albatross has been used by both military and civilian services all around the world with some still in service to this day!
Park Scale Models is pleased to pay homage to this iconic flying boat with the introduction of our sport-scale laser-cut balsa kit. Designed with state of the art 3D CAD software and our Accu-Lock interlocking and self-jigging construction, the Albatross can easily be built by anyone with basic model building skills. A comprehensive assembly manual with CAD drawn illustrations, precision laser cut parts and Accu-Lock construction ensures a straight, accurate and enjoyable build.
You’re sure to get plenty of attention anywhere you take your Albatross to fly. With its 96″ span and light wing loading and docile handling, the Grumman Albatross is perfect for shooting Splash and Go’s or circling the lake low and slow on a Search and Rescue mission. Landlocked? No problem! Optional removable landing gear means your Albatross can be enjoyed at your local field when no water is available.
