Nitroplanes/Airfield RC P-47D |
| The P-47D Thunderbolt, known as the mighty Jug, first flew on May 6, 1941, with Lowry P. Brabham as its test pilot. During WWII, it was the most feared ground-attack aircraft the Army Air Force had at its disposal, as it shot up and bombed countless enemy tanks, locomotives, troop concentrations, airfields, etc., throughout France and Germany, and in the South Pacific. Saito FG-30 |
| Saito has concentrated its design and manufacturing efforts for many years on four stroke model engines and it has paid off. It have established a worldwide reputation for lightweight, totally reliable and powerful engines. From the small .30 cu. in. single, to the large 450 radial, it produces a wide range of displacements with many cylinder configurations. The 1.80 single is one of the largest, single-cylinder four strokes available and has developed a following in the giant scale crowd for its power and handling. With the release of the FG-30, the 1.80 is converted for gasoline. This is certainly more economical and with the integrated spark ignition, it becomes very docile and more user-friendly. The FG-30 follows the traditional Saito practice of a one piece head/cylinder and shares other Saito characteristics as we will see, along with a few innovative modifications necessary for running a gasoline/oil mix. Scaling Out the SIG Waco SRE ARF |
| “Scaling Out”? What is that? It offers a new category of RC model maybe, and certainly a super way to increase your modeling skills without taking the deep plunge into scarycomplex building from traditional kits or even plans. I’m not sure who invented the term, but “Scaling Out” has come to mean choosing an RC scale ARF (Almost-Readyto- Fly) airplane, stripping it down to bare balsa, modifying and adding details here and there to bring it closer to an accurate scale appearance, and then re-covering it, often with a more realistic painted finish in place of the original plastic film. Graupner Elektro - Junior S |
| The Elektro Junior S is entirely constructed of injection-molded Graupner Solidpor foam. The kit includes the airframe, the Graupner Compact 345Z brushless motor, a Cam folding prop, spinner, all necessary hardware, carbon-fiber fuselage stiffener and wing spar, and photoillustrated directions with German captions. There was a small English section towards the back of the manual without photos. To be quite honest, the build was so straight forward all that is required are a few photos. Hangar 9 Jackal 50 |
| According to Webster’s, a Jackal is a smart-looking, fast-moving, smoothoperating, agile and intelligent mammal capable of extraordinary feats far beyond what you might expect from something its size. After four of us took turns flying the subject of this review, all of us now realize what Mike McConville had in mind when he designed this bird and named it the Jackal. E-Flite Aeronca Champ 15e |
| On any given weekend at my local airport I can count on there being a few different types of aircraft in the pattern during the day. One of the most recognizable is the Aeronca 7AC Champion with its yellow and orange trim. Most everyone refers to this classic as a "Champ", so I will too from here on out. Multiplex USA Funjet |
| The new FunJET from Multiplex USA is the latest in their continuing line of smallish jet type models designed for all-out fun. The FunJET assembles from just seven molded foam pieces, and it can easily be completed in a relaxed evening. I spread it across two evenings to install the radio and to add the decals. AeroFly 5 - Flight Simulator |
| One of the most significant advances in RC over the last 10 years or so has been the remarkable melding of RC and computer technology to create the flight simulators we enjoy today. Many components of the dazzling performances we see from top aerobatic pilots flying both airplanes and helicopters are first worked out on a flight sim, for the same reasons why flight simulators are great for rank beginners. You can fly whenever you have a moment to sit down at your computer with complete disregard for the weather and time of day. The near-instant, costfree recovery after crashing a virtual model allows you to take great risks as well, advancing your skills without the threat of countless hours or dollars spent repairing crash damage between flights. E-FLITE Blade 400 3D - True 3D excitement right out of the box |
| E-flite is well known in the electric aircraft arena for its many high-quality, great flying airplanes and helicopters. The Blade 400 3D follows that pattern. It is designed for intermediate and advanced pilots looking for a highly capable compact helicopter that they can fly almost anywhere. This is a high performance helicopter that can do more advanced maneuvers such as fast forward flight, loops, rolls, fly inverted as well as many gravity-defying 3D maneuvers. Heli-Max Axe CP-L |
| My relationship with helicopters has run hot and cold over
the years. Despite my lifelong passion for all things chopper,
the choppers haven’t always had a passion for me. See
whether this sounds familiar: I was an ace on the simulator, and I
logged countless hours flying indoors with toys and larger RC coaxial
ships, but the moment I ventured outside with a collective-pitch
machine, my thumbs and the laws of physics aligned against me. Posted Date: 07-February-2011 (All day) |

Get Your Kids Off The Couch - Fly RC Planes With Your Kids |

PARKZONE T-28 TROJAN RTF - A classic postwar trainer comes to your local park |
| Success and recognition can be challenging goals, especially when you are trying to escape the shadow of a more famous older sibling. Such is exactly the case for North American’s T-28 Trojan. Following the WWII-era T-6 Texan trainer—of which over 17,000 examples have served the armed forces of almost 50 countries— the T-28 had some pretty big shoes to fill. JR X9303 2.4 Radio System |
| In my March/April 2005 “Radio Spectrum” column in RCM magazine, the topic was a truly revolutionary radio system—the XP9303 from JR (Horizon Hobby). This 9-channel radio system has a 30-model memory and three model types (airplane, sailplane and helicopter) with virtually limitless programming options via a unique rolling selector system. This 72MHz system became my favorite; now it has been improved with a built-in 2.4 Spread Spectrum system (add-on modules for the 72 version are also available). Futaba 12FG Radio System |
| Positioned neatly between Futaba’s sport radio line and its
extreme high-end systems, the new 12FG is a full-tilt, top-end,
no-holds-barred radio in a very refined package. Though missing
some of the bling of the 12Z and 14MZ, you don’t have to pay for
anything that you might not really need. When you’re flying, most
important are all the little things that add up to a higher level of control
over your prized model; there, this radio doesn’t skimp on anything. If
you want the best for less, look closely at Futaba’s new 12FG radio. Posted Date: 29-January-2011 (All day) |

Maxford USA Gee Bee Model Y |
| Built in 1931, the Model Y is widely regarded as the finest flying Gee Bee to come out of the Granville brothers’ Springfield, MA, shop. Though it doesn’t have the familiar Gee Bee silhouette, the Model Y exemplifies the grace and elegance that make Golden Age aircraft so appealing. Originally conceived as a two-place sport flyer, the Model Y’s smooth handling and high performance also made it a natural for racing and aerobatic displays. Posted Date: 28-January-2011 (All day) |

E-flite® T-34 Mentor 25E ARF - Fly this classic military trainer this weekend |
| For nearly 60 years, the T-34 Mentor has been used as a primary military
trainer for both the US Military and several air forces and navies throughout
the world. The Mentor was a private venture designed by the infamous
Walter Beech (Beechcraft Aircraft) and presented and marketed as an
economical replacement to the North American T-6 Texan in the late
1940’s. Once accepted, production of the first “A” models began in
1953 with a Continental 6-cylinder 185-horsepower engine. Posted Date: 23-December-2010 (All day) |

Bob Aberle's Park Pattern - An electric powered park flyer capable of standard pattern maneuvers |
| I feel like I was able to capture all the features I wanted in this particular design. It builds very fast. In my case in three days time! There is a chance that Aero Craft Ltd, will be making a kit of the PARK-PATTERN. If not a full kit then a short kit with laser cut ribs. The new Hitec AURORA Spread spectrum RC system provided perfectly smooth control at all times. It has an incredible amount of features. In fact that list of features keeps growing. A totally worthwhile project all the way around! Posted Date: 08-October-2010 (All day) |
