FUTABA’S REVOLUTIONARY 14MZ RADIO SYSTEM
OPENS A NEW ERA IN RC FLYING
Fly RC is thoroughly testing the new 14-channel Futaba 14MZ so that we can bring you a full report on its capabilities. We are impressed. The functionality of this new radio is robust and groundbreaking.
The 14MZ crosses a significant threshold: it is more than just a tool that connects the pilot to an airplane; it is a multi-media system that facilitates the flying experience.
Look at the control surface diagrams below—this only hints at the multi-channel mixing capabilities of the new 14MZ. Here are a few of its most notable features:
- Dual internal processors: Windows CE for all input, programming and audio-visual functions; Futaba Custom Processor handles all flying functions
- Frequencies are synthesized and can be remotely set using the transmitter
- “PCM Generation 3” offers faster response and 2048 resolution, twice that of PCM 1024 (PCM 1024 and PPM modulation also supported)
- Music can be played (Windows Media), and voice commands can be assigned to switches, e.g., “flaps up”
- Lithium battery powered; 30 built-in model memories
- Sound, images and additional model memories
are stored on a 32MB compact flash card
- Software upgrades available by updating
the included compact flash card.
